A senior commercial lawyer in our Government projects and procurement team

Derek is an experienced senior lawyer who specialises in advising on commercial transactions and government contracting, procurement processes and probity.

He has particular expertise advising on significant and complex ICT outsourcing and transformation projects, materiel acquisitions and sustainment services, and infrastructure projects in Australia and the Asia-Pacific. Derek has assisted many clients with adapting their commercial contracts to suit the specific needs of the project.

Derek advises on all aspects of the procurement process, including developing commercially effective and defensible acquisition strategies, implementing probity protocols and procedures, preparing tender documentation, contract structuring, negotiation and contract administration. He is known for providing commercially realistic advice, informed by his experience also advising private sector clients, including Big Tech and ASX50 companies, on Australian Government procurements.

Derek is an admitted and practising solicitor in the ACT, and holds a Bachelor of Laws and a Bachelor of Business (International Business) from the Australian National University (ANU).

Prior to joining Aldermane, Derek worked at an international top-tier law firm, Ashurst.
