A commercial lawyer with a litigator’s edge

Freya is a commercial lawyer who brings over a decade of experience advising government clients on complex procurement, contracting and service delivery arrangements.  She specialises in helping government entities translate policy outcomes into commercially sound and defensible solutions - balancing legal risk, operational needs and strategic objectives.

With a background in litigation, Freya brings a sharp eye for risk and a strategic approach to issue identification and resolution.  These skills enhance her ability to design robust contracting models and provide pragmatic, forward-thinking advice.

Her practice spans the full procurement and grants lifecycle, including the design and implementation of tender and grant processes, contract and grant negotiation and ongoing management and administration of contracts and grants.  Freya has particular expertise in large-scale services contracts and grant arrangements, and is known for her ability to navigate policy compliance, project design and commercial negotiations with clarity and confidence.

Freya is personable and collaborative and is valued by clients for her commercial acumen and ability to deliver clear, outcome-focused advice. She works seamlessly with interdisciplinary teams to ensure legal solutions are aligned with policy intent and operational realities.

Her earlier career as a civil litigator at a national top tier firm saw her appear in the High Court of Australia and Supreme Courts of NSW and the ACT.  This experience gave her a deep understanding of how contracts play out in practice and sharpened her ability to draft agreements that stand up to scrutiny.

Prior to joining Aldermane, Freya was a Special Counsel at Norton Rose Fulbright where she advised Commonwealth Government clients across a range of commercial law areas including probity, privacy, ICT, procurement and general contract law.

Freya holds a Bachelor of Laws and a Bachelor of Arts from the Australian National University.  She was admitted to practice in the Supreme Court of the Australian Capital Territory in 2015 and in the High Court of Australia in 2016.
